Summer bombast, racist stupidity, or somewhere uncomfortably between, Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen gets the PopCultureShock podcast treatment. Did you really think we WOULDN’T have anything to say when two of the key characters are ebonic-speaking robot twins named Mudflap and Skidz?? Grab a chair and get comfortable…it’s a long one.
Where were the angry black men? I want my money back!
LOL at Chanzero’s reply.
Honestly, I was a little disappointed with the beginning of the podcast, because I feel like you Brothers gave the flick a pass on the clear racism on display. Suggesting that people who see racist characteristics in Mudflap and Skids are themselves racist really just doesn’t make any sense. Its an excuse masquerading as a weak straw-man argument. “Skids was voiced by a white actor”. So what? So was Amos and Andy during the radio era.
“We don’t really do much readin’”. Sorry, ya’ll. That suggests illiteracy, not that they couldn’t decipher the text.
Nothing personal, but I think this podcast is a case of letting our geek flag fly a little higher than our consciousness flag. I got more outrage from the white critics than I did a podcast of Brothers, and that saddens me a little.
On the other hand, with the exception of Rueben (who continued to hand out passes to Bay and the boys), I’ll give you Cats credit for going all in on Transformers 2 on it’s weaknesses just as a basic film. Let’s be real. Other than a few exceptions, this film is a mess. It’s bloated. You don’t care about any of the characters. Most of the action scenes don’t really work because of the way they are shot and edited. There’s no rhythm to them at all. Also, I think Bay is running out of ideas. He’s copying all of his grand sweeping shots from earlier films.
Anyway…
F— this film…
Well, one of the reason that my angry black man racism completely deflated is because it felt like it was giving the crappy movie entirely too much credit. It’s like being insulted by someone of child-like intelligence. You could get mad if they had ANY credibility, but the absurdity of every aspect of the movie and all involved just made me, literally, feel like, “Fuck it. It’s not even worth it”.
Thanks for listening, though! that was a lengthy podcast! lol
Fair enough. So…no Public Enemies podcast?
